My plans were once again sidetracked and unfortunately I haven’t shown my blog the love it really deserves. Our moving to Amsterdam (we’re leaving Melbourne next Saturday, yay!) took up more time than expected and work also needed to be taken care of. Once we settle in Amsterdam, mid-May, things should be back on track.
In the mean time, here’s some of the blogging I’ve been working on, among others:
Here’s a very interesting video that shows how focus groups can’t always be trusted, especially when evaluating Apple’s iconic “1984” spot.
If not blinking is your thing, then the Dali Museum staring contest app might be exactly what you were looking for. Fancy yourself gazing at the master for endless periods of time? Then go ahead and download the app, it’s free! And to be honest, sounds a bit fun…
Yesterday’s at the Oscars, the phenomenon Ellen Degeneres proved what exactly a Twitter following of over 25 million people can do. Among other snaps during the show, she posted this star studded selfie, which literary caused Twitter to break down for a few minutes. “We got an email from Twitter, and we crashed and broke Twitter. We have made history,” she said. “See, Meryl, what we did? You and I? It’s amazing, we really just made history.”
The tweet has been shared more than 3,000,000 times on Twitter, which now makes it The Most Retweeted Tweet Of All Time. Sorry, Mr Obama! And sorry, Leo, for that matter. Fun fact: apparently Mr Obama’s social team posted this message after the record fell: “We had a good run, little tweet. We had a good run.”
In the same time, the winner of yesterday’s night, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, got so much media coverage, duh!, that it prompted Samsung to donate $3 million to charity. According to Wall Street Journal, ‘At one point Samsung was getting about 900 mentions a minute on social media, according to Kontera, a company that tracks content on social media sites.’ Things are not all rosy though, as rumour has it that most of the Samsung selfies were pre-planned and part of a ‘sponsorship and ad pact for the Oscars with ABC, the TV network airing the show, Samsung and its media buying firm Starcom MediaVest’. One of the things that gave it away were some other of Ellen’s tweets that went out from her personal phone, an iPhone… Samsung declined to comment.
Some folks will probably not like this, some will not care, but no one can’t deny how fun and crazy this picture is and the hilarious meme frenzy it ensued.
So I have a twin sister. And she has several lookalikes back in Bucharest. Two of which are really good (best?) friends. One of which is her partner in crime of their first DJ gig which will take place this Thursday. I don’t really know Club Eden (I’ve been gone for that long…), but I’m sure you’re going to need your dancing shoes for this party!
Anyway, I’m really proud of her and wished I could be there. Next time, I guess. But if you happen to be in the area, be sure not to miss it!
Bonus: this is the first women DJ gig I’ve heard of in Bucharest, which makes me regret even more that I won’t be able to witness it.
Have fun, girls!
